My name is María José Govea and I'm a commercial photographer based in Los Angeles.
Born and raised in Venezuela, I moved to Toronto in my early twenties to DJ and study film. After picking up a camera to document the electronic music scene around me, I traded my turntables for lenses and never looked back. I've collaborated closely with artists like Diplo, Skrillex, Arcade Fire and Bomba Estéreo, capturing the energy of their tours and creating images that reveal the person behind the performance.
Now based in L.A., I focus on portraiture and commercial work. I'm drawn to moments of connection—observing how people move, laugh, and express themselves. My approach is collaborative: I bring the spontaneity and energy of the music world into every session, creating space for my subjects to be themselves while I capture what makes them magnetic.
